It's honestly hard to believe that it's here already.
In 8 days, my book will be released to the world. Kinda nerve-wracking, but incredible all the same.
SO. Three years ago, I wrote a book title Beloved. I won't go into a whole lot of details here because I'll be sharing more about this tomorrow, but let's just say that this is the story that I believe God gave me to use for His glory. So it's always kinda been in the back of my mind to publish.
Well, skip forward a couple years. Nearly exactly one year ago today, I was talking with my good friend Faith, who happened to be writing a story with the same themes—the love of God, and suicide awareness, among others. So we were talking about what we wanted to do with our stories, and she mentioned that she'd thought about publishing on World Suicide Prevention Day 2019 (which happens to be next week).
And then this lil' thought popped into my head—what if we both did it together next year? But no, I told myself, she wouldn't want to share a release date with someone publishing her debut novel.
But then the message came in: "I don't want to steal your spotlight, but it might be fun to have a double release." And now is the time that lil' ol' Kaitlyn's eyes widen and I'm like "You steal my spotlight?! LET'S DO THIS" And so the idea of the 13 Reasons Why blog tour was born.
Except back then we didn't have a title for it.
So why do we call this the 13 Reasons Why blog tour? Recently, Netflix released a TV series called 13 Reasons Why, with each episode explaining the reasons behind a girl's suicide—13 episodes, 13 reasons. There's difference of opinions as to whether this show portrays suicide in a favorable light, or whether they're just raising awareness, but people have been led to go through with their own suicide because of this show.
And this inspired Faith and I to call this tour the 13 Reasons Why blog tour. Lasting for 13 days, we will share on each day our own reason to choose life.
So, today's reason to live: the semicolon. Semicolons are important in any document, whether it be a blog post, a book, an essay, etc. It doesn't just end a sentence; it connects two separate sentences or ideas and combines them into one. Your life isn't over. What's behind you is just one part of the complete idea. Where you are right now is the semicolon. You've only completed only part of your life; trust God to handle the rest.
Check out Faith's post for her own introduction to the blog tour!
Tomorrow will start the participation of other blogs, so stay tuned for those!

Life without love is hopeless.
Foster teen Cara Richards is unloved. With nothing left and nowhere to go, she is determined to find peace, no matter the cost. But despite her intentions, she’s tossed into another foster family and this time, there’s no going back to who she used to be. To make matters worse, one of her five new foster brothers is a Jesus freak, and she refuses to believe that God actually cares.
Her world is thrown upside down in a way she never expects. Though she prides herself on a resilient heart, her mind is lost adrift among a sea of questions: Is death really the answer? Does God care about someone as unworthy as me? Can everyone truly be loved, no matter what?

ReplyDeleteWhoa, I had no idea that that show had actually led people to suicide. I didn't watch the show, but knowing that is pretty disturbing.
Anyway, I love how both of you had the same idea to release on the same day and I love your idea for the 13 Reasons why blog tour! :D

Thank you, Emily! <3
DeleteYes . . . it's heartbreaking. Some would argue that the show promotes mental health, but the influence it has on others is heartbreaking.
Thank you again!
Such a good topic to write about. I look forward to reading these books!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Tara!
